After 23 years as Chairman of the Jury of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, Arie Van Lysebeth will pass on the baton to Gilles Ledure (for the instrumental competitions in 2019, 2020, and 2021) and Bernard Foccroulle (for the voice competition in 2022).Arie Van Lysebeth
succeeded Eugène Traey
as Chairman of the Jury for the 1996 voice competition. In May 2018, he presided over his last competition, also for singers. When he first took on the role, he was director of the Royal Brussels Conservatory (1994-2003); later, he served as artistic director of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel (2004-2014).Gilles Ledure
has been at the helm of the Flagey cultural centre in Brussels since 2011; previously, he was artistic director of the Orchestre National de Lille and of the Lille Piano Festival. He will begin his chairmanship in May 2019 with the violin competition, followed by Piano 2020 and Cello 2021.
The organist and composer Bernard Foccroulle
recently finished his term as director of the opera festival in Aix-en-Provence; previously, he led La Monnaie/De Munt opera house for many years. In 2022, he will chair the jury of the voice competition.
The 19th Queen Elisabeth Competition for Violin
will take place from 29 April to 25 May 2019 in Brussels at Flagey
(first round and semi-final) and at the Centre for Fine Arts
(final). Subscriptions will go on sale on 29 January 2019 and individual tickets on 19 February 2019 at Flagey and Bozar.
