Violin 2019 : first round
On Friday evening, the order of appearance for the first round has been determined. Download the schedule on the bottom of the page and come and listen to your favourite candidates at Flagey or follow all of them from wherever you are, thanks to the live audio stream on auvio.be (available worldwide).


64 candidates
As some of the 71 candidates have withdrawn since the video preselection round, there are 64 violinists who will participate in the first round, starting on Monday the 29th of April until Saturday the 4th of May at Studio 4 of Flagey. We count 45 women and 19 men, representing 19 different nationalities (list of nationalities available on the bottom of the page). Find out more about them on their personal pages.

Programme
In this round, the candidates will perform works or parts of works that the jury will choose from :
- the sonatas in G minor, A minor, or C major for solo violin by J.S. Bach,
- Beethoven’s Sonata No. 8 in G major, Op. 30 No.3,
- three Caprices by N. Paganini.

The candidates can rely on Victor Santiago Asuncion, José Gallardo, Thomas Hoppe, Boris Kusnezow, Samuel Parent and Takashi Sato as official pianist accompanists.

The names of the 24 semi-finalists will be announced on Saturday May 4th around midnight.

Broadcasts
The performances of the candidates will be available in our digital archives the next day. The semi-final and the final will be streamed live on several websites. More broadcast information : television / radio / internet.
