Biography
Born in Pusan, Korea, in 1973, Cho Eun-Hwa studied under Chang Cheng-Ick at Seoul National University and with composition professor Hanspeter Kyburz at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler, Berlin. Cho’s music has been performed at major music festivals around the world, including the 2002 Asian Contemporary Music Festival in Seoul, the 2003 Ultraschall Festival für neue Musik in Berlin, Acanthes (2003), the 2004 Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt, the 2006 Paxos Spring Music Festival in Greece, and Music Today 21 (2006) in Tokyo by ensembles such as the Arditti Quartet, the Molinari Quartet, the Ensemble Modern, the Tokyo Sinfonietta, and Ensemble TIMF. She has been awarded the Hanns-Eisler-Preis (First Prize, Berlin, 2002), first prize at the Weimarer Frühjahrstage für zeitgenössische Musik (2003), second prize at the Molinari Quartet’s Second International Competition for Composition (Montreal, 2005), and the Busoni Kompositionspreis (Berlin, Akademie der Künste, 2008). Cho’s work has been recorded on the ATMA Classique label. In 2011 the Ensemble Intercontemporain premiers her Jouissance de la différence II for ensemble.
