Biography
After studying in Helge Slaatto’s class at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, where she was the school’s youngest student, Kim Suyoen continued her studies in the Musikhochschule in Münster and later with Ana Chumachenko at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. First Laureate in the Leopold Mozart Competition in Augsburg (2003) and the Hanover International Competition (2006), she has benefited from a number of scholarships in Germany. She has performed with many orchestras, including the Weimarer Staatskapelle, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Copenhagen, Baden-Baden, Strasbourg, St Petersburg, and Santiago Philharmonic Orchestras, the Seoul Symphony Orchestra, and the Munich Symphony Orchestra. In 2009 she has released a CD with works by Mozart under the Deutsche Grammophon label, accompanied by Evgeni Bozhanov, 2nd laureate of the 2010 piano competition. The same year she has recorded two violin concertos by Joseph Joachim under the Naxos label, with the Staatskapelle Weimar. Suyoen Kim plays a violin made by Camilus Camilli (Mantua, 1742) which was given to her by the Deutscher Musikinstrumentenfonds of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
