The Queen Elisabeth Competition is holding a competition for violinists from 4 to 30 May 2015
. This competition is for musicians who have completed their training and who are ready to embark upon an international career. The first laureate will receive a prize of 25.000 euros and will also be loaned the “Huggins” violin (Stradivarius) by the Nippon Music Foundation for a period of four years.
In February an international jury has screened the DVD’s of 170 candidates, sent from all over the world. Chaired by Arie Van Lysebeth, the jury was composed of Pierre Amoyal, Patrice Fontanarosa, Mihaela Martin, Natalia Prischepenko, Marco Rizzi and Gilbert Varga.
69 candidates have been admitted to the first public round, which starts on 4 May at Flagey in Brussels. As some of them have withdrawn since the preselection round, there are 62 violinists who will participate. We count 34 women and 28 men, representing 19 different nationalities :
