In 2016 it is the pianists’ turn again ! From 2 until 28 May the young generation of pianists will compete in Brussels in front of a prestigious international jury. This competition is open to classically trained pianists of all nationalities, aged 18 to 29 years and ready to embark upon an international career.
In February an international jury has screened the DVD’s of 318 candidates, sent from all over the world, a record number! Chaired by Arie Van Lysebeth, the jury was composed of Diane Andersen, Hakon Austbo, Markus Groh, Aleksander Madzar, Cécile Ousset and Boyan Vodenitcharov.
82 candidates have been admitted to the first public round, which starts on 2 May at Flagey in Brussels. As some of them have withdrawn since the preselection round, there are 76 pianists who will participate. We count 23 women and 53 men, representing 23 different nationalities :

The semi-finalist will perform with the Orchestre de Chambre de Wallonie
and conductor Paul Meyer
at the Flagey concert hall and the finalists with the National Orchestra of Belgium
conducted by Marin Alsop
at the Brussels Centre for Fine Arts. A total of € 128,500 and a number of concerts in Belgium and abroad will be shared between the laureates and the semi-finalists.
